Human memory maintains the freshness of the memories and makes the past still present. It never actually fades… The memory has an emotional value, so it is able to connect people... It affects the formation of the communities.

My personal journey, initiated precisely by the theme of a memory, led me to choose a black and white picture, taken during the celebration of All Saints’ Day in Gdansk. It presents a memory, as an active attempt to preserve a recollection of the deceased. I tried to capture the memory connected to the funeral topic, while presenting a contemporary symbolism and the place of a memory. My work – suspended in time memory – is extremely delicate vision, rescued from oblivion by the force of the spirit, religion and culture.

 

 

 

Yiumsiri VANTANAPINDU (b. 1980) – sculptress born in Thailand, living and working in France. In her work she uses mainly ceramics, creates contemporary jewlery and installations. Graduate of Arts Object at HEAR (École supérieure des arts décoratifs de Strasbourg). Assistant of many French artists and participant of numerous exhibitions in France and abroad.

 

In 2015, works of Yiumsiri Vantanapindu were shown in: Kunstverein Freiburg (Germany), Pont Vauban Strasbourg (France), FRAC Alsace (France), Gallery Studio 411 (France). Yiumsiri Vantanapindu took also part in the following residency programes: Institut français de Jérusalem Romain Gary and Bezalel Academy (Israel, 2015), “Terre plein” St. Dié des vosges (France, 2014), Centre Européen d’Actions Artistiques Contemporaines (France, 2013).

 

 

Currently Yiumsiri Vantanapindu is an artist on residency at Laznia Centre for Contemporary Art in Gdansk, whithin the artist residency exchange program, started in 2011 by Apollonia Association in Strasbourg, City of Strasbourg, City of Gdansk and Laznia Centre for Contemporary Art. Previous editions of this bilateral exchange program had following participants: Ahmet Dogan, Patrick Bogner, Jia Qiu and Dorothee Haller. Among Polish artists going to Strasbourg were: Dominika Skutnik, Dorota Walentynowicz, Michał Pecko, Angelika Fojtuch and – currently – Grzegorz Stefański.
