WORKSHOP Desconocida Unknown Nieznana

October 1st and 2nd, 2014

 

We invite you to participate in the one-day workshop Desconocida Unknown Nieznana, conducted by the Norwegian artist Lise Bjørne Linnert.

The workshop is devoted to the problem of violence against women in Ciudad Juárez, on the border between Mexico and the United States. At the turn of the twentieth and twenty-first century hundreds of women living there were kidnapped and murdered. During the meeting, a movie Missing young women  directed by Lourdes Portillo will be displayed, on the same subject. There will also be time for discussion.

The workshop participants will be asked to embroider a name of one of the murdered victims and the word "unknown" in their own language and alphabet on pieces of cotton tapes supplied by the artist. These ribbons are presented later in the monumental installations created by the artist.

The workshop will be held twice:
