Soundplay is a project launched by Laznia CCA in 2012. In previous years it included a series of workshops on the art of sound which were summarized by a publication consisting of theoretic texts. The next step of the project is the Soundplay Festival. Its first edition will take place in Gdańsk between 24th – 29th of June 2014. During this time, numerous concerts, lectures, workshops and installations will be presented in Laznia CCA in the Lower Town, in Gdansk City Gallery 2 on Powroźnicza Str. and in the St. Johns Centre.
The sound art festival Soundplay 2014, will mainly focus on works related to the broad practice of field recording.
Christina Kubisch will organize the 50th edition of her Electrical Walks project, in which she invites the audience to listen to the ‘music’ of electromagnetic fields that fill the center of Gdańsk. Every person will have a chance to borrow specially designed headphones and follow the route prepared by the artist. Kubisch will also give a concert based on scanning the electromagnetic fields present at the concert venue. Jana Winderen will present a spatial, multi-channeled concert and take part in a artist in residency programme, during which she will realize field recordings at the wildlife reserve Ptasi Raj. American artist living in Estonia, John Grzinich, will lead the workshop on listening and audiosphere. The results of this workshop will be presented on the 25th of June in Laznia CCA. On the 26th – 27th of June the festival will move to the St. Johns Center, where concerts and performances will take place.
Jon Wozencroft, the founder of London’s recording studio Touch, will give a lecture, and together with BJ Nilsen, will lead a workshop on field recording in Laznia CCA. Nilsen, will also give a concert. Martyna Poznańska will present her field recordings in form of a concert. While The Art Book Orchestra is a project from the crossroads of performance, sound installation and art book, by the artist Konrad Korabiewski, who will also present the film NS-12, made in a cooperation with Kristján Loðmfjörð.
Concerts, performances, lectures and workshops will be accompanied by the exhibition of sound installations presented in Gdansk City Gallery 2, where works of: Kacper Ziemianin, Rudy Decelière, Porcje Rosołowe, Justyna Kociszewska and Małgorzata Słomska will be presented. During the opening on the 24th of June, an improvised concert by Mateusz Wysocki and Rudy Decelière will take place.
