The Hysterical Machines are robots suspended from the ceiling of the gallery. They fill evenly the space, leaving just sufficient space for visitors to walk around. Each machine has a spherical body and eight arms made of aluminum tubing. It has a sensing system that functions as an autonomous nervous system. It allows the robots to detect the presence of viewers in the nearby environment. The machines react to the viewers according to the amount of stimuli they receive. The aim of this project is to induce empathy of the viewer towards characters which are nothing more than articulated metal structures.
The Art+Science Meeting project has been subsidized by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
