LAZNIA 1 2003 - Teemu Mäki DARKNESS VISIBLE
14.03-13.04.2003
Curator: Agnieszka Wołodźko
Cooperation: Małgorzata Taraszkiewicz-Zwolicka
An exhibition of paintings, photography and video by the Finnish artist who has a deeply critical attitude towards reality. His works, inspired by Nietzsche’s and de Sade’s philosophies, showed the symptoms of power and violence coming out on the different levels of life: from family through political configurations to the structures of religious life. Thus – besides the symbol of the cross – machines, TV sets and luxurious consumer goods appeared in his paintings. In his pursuit of debunking, the artist did not refrain from including in his iconography the representations of people from his closest surroundings.
