Szablewska Gabriella
A young Australian emerging artist pursuing her art career as a means of political and social investigation, through the media of painting.
Gabriella Szablewska grew up on the beaches of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. She was born to Polish immigrants looking to make a new start in a young country.
Graduating in 2007 from the Queensland College of Art with a Master of Arts in Visual Art, Gabriella went on to complete her Honours year in Visual Art, graduating with a First Class Honours in 2008. In 2010 she was a successful applicant for an Australia Council Artstart grant, followed in 2011 by a New Work Australia Council Grant. Gabriella was also the recipient of an Arts Queensland Career Development Grant in 2012. Exhibiting locally, nationally, and internationally, Gabriella has been selected for numerous group exhibitions, including Launch: Clayton Utz Travelling Scholarship, Tidal at Redcliffe City Art Gallery, and The Graduate Art Show at the Queensland College of Art Gallery, where she was awarded a "Highly Commended". Her work has been shortlisted for a number of art prizes, including the 2010 Williamstown Contemporary Art Prize in Melbourne, and the Churchie Art Prize in Brisbane. She was also selected as a finalist in Redcliffe City Art Gallery's annual acquisitive award 15 Artists in 2009.
Gabriella currently lives and works in Brisbane, Australia.
