LAZNIA 1 2010 - THE OUTDOOR GALLERY OF THE CITY OF GDANSK - THE INAUGURAL CEREMONY OF „UNDERCOVER” BY ESTHER STOCKER / CONCERT

“Undercover” by Esther Stocker (Austria) is a consecutive work of art to be realised within the space of the Lower Town district in Gdansk. It is realised within the framework of The Outdoor Gallery of the City of Gdansk.
The author attempts to present an artistic variant of the underpass; she tries to deconstruct ordinariness and approach the construction differently and provide it with individual features. She exposes the entry by putting the map grids, fragmentary structures and black and white patterns on the construction form. The distinctive features force us to stop and think about forms that we go past absent-mindedly everyday. This piece is situated in the space of the underground passage at Łąkowa and Podwale Przedmiejskie crossing and it constitutes a strong architectonic structure co-existing with the ephemeral installation by Dominik Lejman, also awarded in the 2nd edition of the Outdoor Gallery competition. The event will be followed by a concert of new music at 7 p.m. in the Academy of Music, which is situated next to Esther Stocker’s installation.
