LAZNIA 1 2010 - THE OUTDOOR GALLERY OF THE CITY OF GDANSK - LAUNCHING OF NVISIBLE GATE AND BEGINNING OF AUTOART WORKSHOPS SEASON
14.05. 2010, 12-4 p.m
Curator: Jadwiga Charzyńska
Coordination: Anna Szynwelska
The official launching of ”Invisible Gate” installation by Front Studio from New York will take place and it will be incorporated with the programme of artistic events realised within the framework of The Outdoor Gallery of the City of Gdansk project. It is a consecutive work of art, following LKW Gallery, to be realised within the space of Szopy Street flyover (and not the last one). The work was awarded in the 1st edition of the Outdoor Gallery of the City of Gdansk competition for its successful attempt to abolish the physical barriers between the Old Town and the Lower Town while being typically minimalist in its form, materials and architecture. Covering the part of the flyover with steel lining in the form of mirrors physically and metaphorically brightens up the space under the flyover, making it feel wider. The installation is surprising and its location encourages tourists to overcome “not existent” barrier and to visit the Lower City.
On the same day Laznia CCA also invites children and youth to take part in the inauguration of a six-month educational and artistic project AutoArt held in LKW Gallery. During the fest the workshop studio located in the lorry stuck under the flyover will have turned into a place alive with energy. Within the activity bloc for the young participants (12-4 P.M.) we will offer a selection of educational games, a series of art and creativity activities plus architecture and design workshops conducted by Yen Ha and Michi Yanagishita of Front Studio group.
