LAZNIA 1 2015 - CRITICAL PRESS REVIEW by POLITICAL CRITIQUE THREE CITY CULTURAL CENTRE
ACCOMPANYING EVENT TO “DRIFTING” EXHIBITION.

Saturday 10th October 2015 at 12.00
Jaskółcza 1, Gdańsk - Dolne Miasto

Maria Klaman and Elżbieta Rutkowska will lead the Critical Press Review in CCA Laznia.

Critical Press Review is a review of the most important media events released by media in the recent few days. Events related to refugees and immigrants both in Poland and widely in the world will be the focus of the discussion. Anxiety, hostility and animosity towards refugees can be overcome by talking about common values, especially those that are so crucial in the "city of solidarity." How identical information is presented from the perspective of various media will be also analysed during the Saturday afternoon. An effort will be taken to understand these different interpretations of the facts.

Critical Press Review is an event accompanying the exhibition „Drifting” of Danish duet Nielsen & Johnsen. The artists focus on the topic of the Other, expelled beyond the borders of the system. A person functioning on the margin, on the limits of generally accepted norms and rules. Western countries are building ever tighter borders, while millions of people embark on a journey to Europe in search of a safe life.

Hanne Nielsen and Birgit Johnsen also emphasise alternative manners of constructing histories, the methods of structuring public discourse, the official versus the private. They are intrigued by the value of a piece of “news”, which may only be topical here and now. It only exists in the present.
