LAZNIA 1 2007 -  Polish female video art presentation THE SWEET ART
8.03.2007, at 7 p.m

Stereotypical femininity is characterized by romanticism, warmth and an idealized image which means everything that is superficial. This is an image that is most often projected by a masculine part of society. Rarely can you find such an image in the artistic practice of women. Femininity is not lace-nostalgic at all but real and deeply rooted in the reflection upon a changing body, emotions and imaginations.
The ‘Sweet Art’ is the outcome of thoughts that are sometimes bitter, often ironic or displaying critical insight into one’s own personality and into the emotional burden carried by every woman, closely connected both with social functions in history and physique. The aim of the presentation is to show attitudes towards the idea of the ‘female=sweet art’ regarded as easy and pleasant. Featured female artists talk about (not necessarily their own)  experience of femininity. The presentation includes both new and older yet never shown works.

Authors: Zuzanna Janin, Laura Pawela, Agnieszka Szreder, Magda Bielesz, Grupa Sędzia Główny, Beata Sosnowska, Gina (Eugenia Rewera), Marta Szulc, Bogna BURSKA, Emilia Orzechowska, Patrycja Orzechowska, Anna Lasocka; Mariola Brillowska, Elżbieta Jabłońska.

The video presentation is accompanied by a portraits’ exhibition presenting female inhabitants of the Lower City District in Gdańsk, who took part in the make-up workshops at the LAZNIA Centre for Contemporary Art.  Portraits by: Dominik Kulaszewicz and Anna Roman.
There is also going to be the Art Fair with works by: Beata Białecka, Magda Bielesz, Dorota Nieznalska, Monika Pudlis, Beata Sosnowska, Iwona Zając, Joanna Zastróżna, Małgorzata Żerwe, Małgorzata Winter and Dorota Podlaska.

The Opening Day on 8 March will be embellished with the ‘Lukrecja Pusz’ Group and their mysterious action developing in time.
