S.T.R.H. (Stones That Rest Heavily) is a solo exhibition of the work of Konrad Smoleński, one of the most interesting Polish artists of the young generation, who will be representing Poland at the 55^th Venice Biennale in 2013 with a solo exhibition at the Polish Pavilion.

This sound installation, located in the biggest exhibition space at the Laznia Centre for Contemporary Art, makes contact with artwork a total experience for the senses, engaging not only sight and hearing, but the viewer’s entire body, making it an almost physical experience. The installation consists of large-scale objects generating low-fi sound, ranging from almost inaudible acoustic pressures to strong physical vibrations (of the viewer’s body and walls). The sound then suddenly falls until it disappears completely.

The title Stones That Rest Heavily derives from Colin Stetson and Mats Gustafsson’s album Stones (2012).

On 19 August 2013, a day after the close of the exhibition, we invite you to the dismantling of the show, a meeting with the artist, and the S.T.R.H book launch.

Konrad Smoleński (1977) is a multimedia artist working with photography, video, installation and performance. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań and is a member of Penerstwo artistic group. In 2011, he was awarded the prestigious Views Award by Zachęta National Gallery of Art and the Deutsche Bank Foundation.

BNNT Sound Bombing 20 - 21 August 2013, start: Dolne Miasto, Gdańsk.

The exhibition’s finissage will be accompanied by a two-day long street sound bombing by the BNNT group, who combine music and visual arts in their work. The action is being organised as part of the Outdoor Gallery of the City of Gdańsk.
