Lewis Tim

He is born Kingston-on-Thames, 1961) studied at Middlesex Polytechnic 1980–1983, and at the Royal College of Art 1984–1987. Artist-engineer, he is a maker of art machines and objects, which are inventions and constructions rather than sculptures. They move and perform. Among the images we recognise in his oeuvre are adjusted birds, rabbits, insects, the mule, which is in this exhibition, and various items of furniture: chairs, staircases, shelves, tables, cages, an anvil. There are objects with tiny figures, which appear to run in circles under stroboscopic light, a bird on a wheel encased in while netting, an elegant ostrich, Pony, with a head made from a black glove, pulling a seat on wheels. There is a Fawn on wheels, and various arms, each holding a pen, writing or drawing on a suspended notebook. Tim Lewis plays with titles as well as with ideas.

The drawing arm is entitled The arm will write out all it can remember...

His work has been exhibited widely in England and America. Tim Lewis lives and works in London and is represented by the Flowers Galleries.
