Papadimitriou Maria
She was born in Athens in 1957, and today still lives in Volos, Athens.
She studied at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris (1981-1986). She holds the title of Associate Professor of Art and Environment at the Architectural Department of the University of Thessaly, Greece.
She is known as an artist for her ability to investigate collaborative projects and collective activities that highlight the interconnection between art and social reality.
She is founder of T.A.M.A (Temporary Autonomous Museum for All) and ongoing social project that in 2002 she presented at the 25th Biennial of Sao Paulo and in 2003 was transformed into a non profit association. That same year she won the prize for Contemporary Greek Art awarded by the Deste Foundation. Her most recent project Souzy Tros (Suzy you’ve been eating) is the new para-site art space by T.A.M.A in Elaionas, Athens. Her work has been exhibited in multiple biennials including the 2007 Thessaloniki Biennial and the Lyon Biennial in 2009, where she co-curated her Roma project with Gabi Scardi and Lucy Orta. She has also produced numerous in situ projects including her ongoing Free Hotels projects which include Hotel Isola in Milano (2006),Plug Inn Hotel in the Canarias Islands (2006), Hotel Haifa in Israel (2010) and Otel Nokul in Sinop, Turkey (2010). Her latest projects are Roma Coats presented at the National Academy of Arts in London, her Murano based installation Apparatus exhibited at the MAC Marseille and Tear & Repair workshop as part of her Souzy Tros project.
