LAZNIA 1 2010 - Filip Berendt PHOTOGRAPHY
22.01 – 21.02.2010
Opening 22.01.2010, at 6 p.m.
Curator: Agnieszka Kulazińska
The exhibition comprises two photographic series of Filip Berendt: “Pandemia” and “Still life”. The first series consists of photographs of objects made of mould, grown especially for the purpose of the project, while “Still life” are surprising compositions made of things at hand, parts of their own surroundings. Berendt’s works can be understood as a play with art history: “Pandemia” may be associated with the 1950’s trend of matter painting, the painterly experiments with the texture of the image. The use of mould guides us to other motifs from the area of art history – land art, arte povera, bio art. “Still lives” refer in their topic and form to the Baroque painting, while objects used hint at pop art and New Realism. The quotation and formal play are only the first layer of Berendt’s aesthetic images. An attentive viewer will discover underneath more existential tones, the play with the language and the theory of photography.
Filip Berendt graduated from the Photography Faculty at the Fine Arts Academy in Gdańsk and from the Faculty of Painting and Graphic Arts at the Fine Arts Academy in Łódź.
