Iv Toshan (b. 1980) is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and postgraduate studies in the field of painting at Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. Her works were displayed around the world as well on the solo as the collective exhibitions in Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Mexico, The United States, and Great Britain. Iv Toshain lives and works in Vienna. She creates photography, drawings, paintings, films, objects and installations.
"Camouflage Predator Species" series ask question about evolution. What will happen during further evolution? Will new species be created? Artist in her works tries foreseen possible answers. Her movies, photography and drawings create world of hybrid creatures - new species created by mutation and symbiosis of plants, animals and people. This kind, to survive have to fit to the present rules, social codes, stereotypes – need of beauty, accompanied by vanity, passing, cruelty, brutality, force, consumerism, search for profit, violence etc. Works of Iv Toshain create world after another step in evolution, which come into begging as a result of environment and modern homo sapiens analysis. They are the answer for genetic experiments, particularly creation of first animal-human embryo by British scientists.
Iv Toshain works are the fruit of modern world observation. Transformed by artistic imagination and sensibility create kind of warning, game with the viewer, under visually attractive, baroque form hiding serious reflections and questions.
