LAZNIA 1 2009 - Kamil Zaleski PLOT OF MR H. PAINTING
24.07 – 24.08.2009
Opening of the exhibition 24.07.2009, at 6 p.m.
Curator: Agnieszka Kulazinska
The main character of Kamil Zaleski’s work exhibition will be Mr Henry. This man is one of the typical inhabitants of Lower City in Gdańsk. Kamil Zaleski has met him on one sunday morning three year ago, during a casual stroll through Lower City. He took picture of him, and they had a short conversation. He visited him after some time.
Mr Henry turned out to be nice, gentle and polite man - typical Pole, with thirty years of working experience in shipyard, drinking vodka, now on retirement. On the question how to describe our times he just said: “Poverty, poverty and poverty.” Artist saw certain universalism in his attitude; in his paintings he calls him Polish “everyman.” – Mr Henry probably has never visited Laznia before, although he lives just behind the corner. Exhibition will be an opportunity for meeting of two realities, the one of Mr Henry and the other of the gallery. Will it be a good chance for those two realities to discover one another? After all they just live next to each other.
Kamil Zaleski is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk.
