Olaf Brzeski (born 1975) graduated in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. He made his debut winning the competition for the monument in memory of Pomarańczowa Alternatywa (Orange Alternative), which has been located in Świdnicka Street in Wrocław. He works mainly in bronze, resin, recently in ceramics, creating accomplished, narrative projects showing a distorted version of reality. The two of them, making for the exhibition at Laznia, have been realised in Wrocław’s BWA Gallery: Tylko dla ludzi (For Humans Only, Galeria Awangarda, 2006) and Antiheros – or the long-expected change of roles (The Glass and Ceramics Gallery, 2008).
In the first project, the crucial element is destruction, read as a basic expression of human “creative” activity.
Antiheroes is an enclosed project inside of which a mutated image of reality arises, so characteristic for Brzeski. The sterile and minimalistic gallery space is subject to degeneration and turns into a gloomy workroom of a hunter. The hunter himself, a victim of his own deeds, of the attempts to regulate the nature, becomes totally redundant, while the collection of his trophies is subjected to transformation.

Project realised in cooperation with BWA –Galleries of Contemporary Art in Wrocław.
