The French artist presented her photographs and videos devoted to the topic of the allotments in Gdańsk, which are a manifestation of the local micro-entrepreneurship and self-organisation. Documenting, among other things, the allotments in Letniewo which are going to disappear soon, making way for the Baltic Arena sports stadium, Papapietro looked at them as the elements
which would be missing in the landscape of our city. Her camera recorded the often funny and unpredictable forms emerging where human resourcefulness and the vitality of nature meet – the aesthetics of private paradises, the substitutes for oases of freedom. The quasi-architecture of arbours built from waste, real and plaster animals, fragments of household objects turned into construction elements of the garden, comical and moving, found themselves pictured in Mathilde’s tender photographs.
