LAZNIA 1 2010 - TRANZYT

Contemporary dance - choreography – topical work

Tranzyt is an interdisciplinary workshop which combines elements of contemporary dance and topical work. The project was developed for the purpose of simultaneously investigating the internal dynamics of transit sites and tensions which arise in the context of a particular movement in space. The search within the body is linked in a dialogue with architecture, social issues and history. Using the techniques of contemporary dance and improvisation, the classes aim to steer one towards experiencing transitional and temporary spaces in their most current moments available.

The starting point of the workshop is the Lower Town district of Gdansk, together with changes accumulated within its boundaries. During a walk around the neighborhood, you will "see the houses, which are fully exposed on one side, because the neighboring house was destroyed and never rebuilt" (Pejzaż miejski, W. Wenders), hear "I’m moving out after the end of the school year because their demolishing my apartment house”, come across a disused tramlines, green seventeenth-century bastions - the old rubbish dump, bridges, viaducts, tunnels, canals, streets that are slightly too wide, a LKW Gallery truck stopped in a lay-by.

The classes are aimed not only at people interested in dance, but also open to those who wish to explore the network of cultural meanings.
