Event organized in cooperation with the Netherlands Embassy
Shortly Speaking... Dutch is a review of short films made by filmmakers and artists working in the Netherlands. The program consists of the most interesting productions of the past two years. The Dutch are masters of small form and abstraction, gifted with ironic sense of humor, which is specially manifested in their films. This year’s edition of Shortly Speaking... Dutch is devoted to experimental films, searching for new formal and narrative ways of telling a story. The films are grouped in three programs referring to different fields: concerning the form, autothematic documents on art, and the ones looking for new solutions in the field of storytelling. There will be works of famous artists shown - among them Pim Zwier, Erwin Olaf, and Jacco Oliver – and films shown previously at major festivals in the Netherlands: “Printed Matter” dir. Sirah Foighel Brutmann & Eitan Efrat (IDFA 2011), “Desert ° 79: Three Journeys Beyond the Known World” by Anna Abrahams, or “544/544 (up / down)”, Thomas Mohr (Rotterdam 2012); as well as young artists, yet unknown to a wider audience outside the Netherlands. Films presented show fascination in film form, especially the contemporary form, that is strongly influenced by the development of technology, therefore the films dialogue with contemporary visual culture, and also talk in a creative way about the surrounding reality.
There will be a lecture before the start of the review by the curator Katarzyna Boratyn, Kino.Lab Zamek Ujazdowski.
Organizer: Centre for Contemporary Art Zamek Ujazdowski / Kino.Lab with the support from the Netherlands Embassy
