We would like to invite you to a meeting promoting the book “Nowy Port Lives. Neighbouhood Remarks”! The title of the publication comes from a newspaper, created in a joint, collaborative project, connecting the art institution – LAZNIA CCA, an artist in residency – Grete Aagaard and a group of inhabitants of Nowy Port district. The book presents and analyses the course of work on the project and a process of creating the newspaper. It includes reflections and essays of researchers, art critics, curators, documentarists, artists and project participants.
About the project
‘Neighbourhood Remarks’ is based on a close collaboration with the local community of Nowy Port district. Within the project, as a result of group’s common discussion it was decided to publish the magazine "Nowy Port ŻYJE" [Nowy Port is Alive], which was first published in 2014. The title, themes, graphic form and the content of the newspaper are an effect of group decisions and an expression of individual interests of the authors. The paper created by and for the citizens was aimed at describing Nowy Port in positive terms; to point out that it has its own character, interesting stories and places, as well as a desire to participate, redefine and co-create this district.
In last year's edition of the project, the group participated in haiku workshops with Gosia Zamorska (Fundacja Generacja), which resulted in written poetic texts. Their fragments were later used as a decoration of hand-made bags, created by the group with usage of screen printing method. Some of them will also be available at the promotional meeting, along with copies of the publication.
