Movies by Aleka Polis refer to existing forms of distinguishing between male and female, prohibited and permitted, sacrum i profanum. Hierarchies resulting from these divisions are deconstructed and de-neutralised by an artist. What was divided in the discourse of knowledge and power, in the discourse of art is aligned again, brought back to common sharing. Artist uses defined by Judith Butler principle of „quoting the language against its original version”. She plays with secular and sacral symbols of authorities, and includes them in artistic discourse, doubting in them at the same time. Aleka Polis movies are usually final record of actions, happenings and performances that took place in public space and in refer to objects put there defining order of power. Sometimes artist deconstructs social symbolic space by using computer animation and found footage techniques.

The show will be accompanied by commentary made by the artists Aleka Polis and Agnieszka Żechowska – independent curator, art theorist, founder of Supermarket of Art Foundation, member of the Institute of Social Relations Researches
