Contemporary Art The exhibition was organised on the premises of Gdańsk Shipyard, in the historical BHP (Health and Safety at Work) Hall, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the signing of the Gdańsk Social Accords [in August 1980]. One of the guidelines of the project of the exhibition was to recall the role Gdańsk events played in the history of freeing Poland from the Communist ideology and the significance of the events for the further transformations on the geopolitical map of Eastern Europe. The exhibition presented the historical context of the events which led to the establishing of the Third Republic of Poland. The audio-visual exposition included slideshows, film screenings, photographic documentation. Archival materials and visual documentation illustrated the traditions of resistance against the Communist authority, the history of the
Solidarity movement and of the earlier social protests and of the formation of independent political thought. Part of the exhibits outlined the background of the daily life and
culture in the times of Communist Poland. This project was produced in cooperation with Gdańsk-based artists, among others: C.U.K.T. (interface for computer programs), Robert Rumas (reconstruction of shop interiors from the end of the 1970s), Grzegorz Klaman (commemorative monument consisting of two gates connected by a platform, located in the open space of the Shipyard’s premises).
