Composer, electric bass player and musician who has developed his work in the no man's land between "academic" composition (orchestra, ensembles, opera) and electronic "new music" or "noise music".
He has definitively integrated the computer into the very heart of his work, as a tool of thought and composition, and as a live instrument, hybridising more traditional instruments if necessary, or working on the sheer electronic noise. Through all those years he has collaborated on numerous projects of contemporary dance, always proposing live music
He got numerous commissions from the French Government, the radio and from electronic studios such as Ircam, GRM , GMEM, CRFMW, EMS, GRAME. He also works with experimental or unclassifiable musicians such as Zbigniew Karkowski, Dror Feiler, Art Zoyd, Eliane Radigue, Phill Niblock, Francisco Lopez, Ulrich Krieger and others.
He has won several prizes and distinctions, among them 1st prize for orchestral composition at the Besançon Festival, 1st prize at the "Opéra autrement/Acanthes" competition, Villa Médicis Hors les Murs (New York), grant Leonardo da Vinci (San Francisco), Villa Kujoyama (Kyoto), DAAD (Berlin), Giga Hertz Prize (ZKM, Karlsruhe), Hors-les murs (Poland).
JOB KARMA
Audiovisual project established in Wrocław (Poland) in 1997. The members are Maciej Frett and Aureliusz Pisarzewski, with Arkadiusz Bagiński in charge of the visuals. The group hails from the post-industrial scene but with every new album the musicians cast their net wider into the extended field of dark electronica - from ambient to techno, dark wave and EBM. What remains unchanged is the quality of their music that, as the critics say, makes it “a movie for your ears”: picturesque and expressive, it is an ideal soundtrack for the never made film that the listeners can ‘see’ using their imagination.
The group is famous for their suggestive live performances that combine music with the elements of animation and video art. They depict the relationship between human and machine and between human and sacrum as well as slow decay of value systems due to advancing commercialization of everyday existence of individuals and societies.
The group (both as Job Karma and as 7 JK - collaboration with Matt Howden) released eight albums in Poland, UK, USA, Italy, Austria and Czech Republic and played around 200 gigs in Europe. They have performed regularly at the most important festivals of dark alternative music, such as Wave Gotik Treffen, BIMfest, Schlagstorm, Elektroanschlag, Mėnuo Juodaragis, Sensoria, Wroclaw Industrial Festival and Castle Party.
Since 2001 Frett and Bagiński, as Industrial Art, have been organising WROCŁAW INDUSTRIAL FESTIVAL, showcasing contemporary industrial music and culture and dark electronica.
In May 2014 Job Karma released their new album (Cd and LP) “Society Suicide”, which will be presented during the live concert in Gdańsk.
