Close Stranger 2013 – 2014 Art Residencies

“Close Stranger: promoting mutual understanding between population of Gdansk, Kaliningrad and Klaipeda through facilitation of exchange in the field of contemporary arts and culture”
Close Stranger Art Residencies focus on deepening and interpreting the prejudice, stereotypes and conflicts that function among the three partner countries of the project: Russia, Lithuania and Poland. Artists: Marta Vosyliute, Laura Zalagaityte, Nerijus Janskauskas, Aleksander Liubin, Egor Luchshev and Grigorij Selski were asked to reflect on  issues that unite and divide the three neighbouring societies. Societies that are so closely related by history and culture. The result of their work will be presented at the exhibition in 2014.
 
Marta Vosyliute
Graduated from Vilnius Art Academy, Stage Design faculty. Her drawings and paintings have been exhibited on many individual and group exhibitions. She has done stage design for more than 30 plays, musicals and dance performances all over Lithuania. Her areas of interest focus on non-traditional spaces for performing arts. 
Author of critical texts. Participates in a large number of conferences.
 
Laura Zalagaityte
Student of Vilnius Art Academy, Department of Photo and Media Art. She has participated in a number of group exhibitions in Lithuania.
 
Nerijus Janskauskas
Graduate of Ethics and Psychology from Vilnius Pedagogical University and Vilnius photographers  school. Pedagogue and coordinator of cultural projects. Co-operates with a number of daily newspapers and journals.
 
Aleksander Liubin
Photographer.  He has graduated in 2009 from the Immanuel Kant Russian State University.
He is a member of art groups “Common Wince” and Moment, Association of Supporters of "Khrushchev buildings" and the Kaliningrad Union of Photo artists.
His interests focus on landscape and documentary photography. At the moment he is working on a few projects undertaking such subjects as illusion of movement or socio-cultural environment.
His works are in the collections of the Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), “Chelsea” gallery (NYC), Kaliningrad Art Gallery and a number of private collections.
Winner of the “Photomania 2011” biennale of photography and the “Territory of victory” exhibition. His works had been published in: Russian Reporter, F5, OpenSpace and others.
 
Egor Luchshev 
Artist, photographer. Egor has accomplished a course in analogue photography in Kalinigrad school of classic photography provided by Kaliningrad Union Of Photo Artists. Participant of Polish – Russian Programme »[OR] EDU».
2nd prize in Epson Photo competition “People” category “My best picture". His works have been exhibited in a number of group exhibitions like: The term-Young Art Competition. Exhibition in Moscow House of Photography, Gallery "Outlet " Kaliningrad-exhibition "Habitat"  by Moment Art Group.
 
Grigorij Selskij
Student of Rodczenko Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia. He is an author of films, photography, experimental music, video installations and public art interventions. Social media and their effect on the creation of the contemporary reality are often the subject of his works.
 
 
 
Project “Close stranger” is co-financed with funds from the European Union in under Lithuania-Poland-Russia ENPI Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013.
