LAZNIA 1 2008 - BREAKING THE WALLS - DISRUPTIVE TENDENCIES IN CONCEPTUAL VIDEO AND FILM

"Breaking the walls - disruptive tendencies in conceptual video and film".
- screening and the lecture of Swedish video art and experimental film by Mats Stjernstedt.

The screening "Breaking the walls" are looking at political strategies in conceptual Swedish film and video works, historically and until today. The artists and filmmakers represented share a common strategy of using the tactics of provocation, continuosly challenging up to date societal issues, and rather creating a space of discomfort and disruption. The screening, curated by Mats Stjernstedt,  will be bridging works from the late fifties and until 2008 in a compilation of mistrust, indicating quite a different and rarely seen view of Swedish society as we may know it. Represented in the programme are, amongst others, Henrik Andersson, Marie-Louise Ekman, Annika Eriksson, Peter Geschwind, Pontus Hultén/Hans Nordström, Maria Lindberg and Ulf Steij works will be a unique occasion to learn Polish audience with the Swedish art.


Mats Stjernstedt – born in 1968, lives and works in Stockholm. He was for many years as free-lance curator and in September 2001 he became director of Index. Index is an independent art space in Stockholm that focuses on contemporary artistic and curatorial practices. The exhibition program is to be compiled by an interdisciplinary committee of four persons. He has previously worked as art critic for Flash Art, Art + Text and Art Forum.

Index is an independent art space owned and run by Index - The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation. It is a site for art production and distribution, a place where artistic and audience related experiments are carried out. The focus of the gallery is directed towards contemporary art and curatorial practice with the aim of providing a ground for creativity in a wider sense of the word. Each year Index produces 6 - 8 exhibitions in the gallery space, but in addition also promotes artistic expressions in various forms such as for instance screenings, performance, and workshops to influence the program with certain mobility.
