Lecture combined with promotion of books Wolfgang Welsch “Aesthetics beyond aesthetics. For the new form of aesthetics”, “Japanese aesthetics part 2” and “Japanese aesthetics part 3”

 

Has aesthetics, in its modern form of philosophy of art, reached an end point? Why does aesthetics go beyond aesthetics? Where do modern aesthetics lead? It seams that this domain have reached an end point and is c hanging its form into something that is not jet recognized. Welsch’s works are an example of this kind of research.

“Aesthetics beyond aesthetics. For the new form of aesthetics”

 

A selection of texts of contemporary German philosopher and aesthetic, whose works are known in Poland mainly to specialists in spite of their originality, inspirational character and position of classics in contemporary aesthetics are beyond doubt. The anthology consists of seven among the most important publications from the last period (the nineties). It has been constructed to present the transformations of aesthetic thought stimulated by the changes in contemporary art and culture.

 

 

“Japanese aesthetics part 2”

 

Second volume of anthology devoted to the culture of Japan has been divided, as the title “Word and image” shows, in two parts: in the first are located the translations of Japanese classical literature (including fragments of “Genji monogatari”). The second part consists of considerations on painting, calligraphy and arts such as emaki and haiga, that are fusion between image and word.

 

 

“Japanese aesthetics part 3”

 

“The aesthetics of life and the beauty of death” is the title of successive volume of anthology devoted to Japanese aesthetics. The first part contains two well known texts: “The structure of iki” by Kuki Shuzo and “The praise to the shadow” by Tanizaki Junchiro, which are translated to polish for the first time by Henryk Lipszyc. The second part is concerning on the ideal of “beautiful death”, formulated in the ethic system of bushido, which is still penetrating the ethos of contemporary Japanese with the evidence in life and writing of Mishima Yukio.
