8–30.03.2011 Justyna Kuklo My Grandma’s Table
The artist has reconstructed the table which once had belonged to her grandmother, yet disintegrating it in a pawky way, through putting sexual motives on napkins and the table cloth. In this project, she has paid tribute to her grandmother and to all women made to work and to produce objects of daily use for their families. The question of family relations and relationships was specifically important for her, as she invited her own mother to the project, who embroidered patterns on a part of the napkins. The time spent together and the conversations during production of the trivial yet “life-adorning” objects tighten up the relations between women who make them. These napkins contain many thoughts and secrets concerning women’s relations, and tell a lot about them and about all their current problems at the time of the making.
My Grandma’s Table is a part of M.Art. thesis work, selected as the best diploma of the year 2010 by Academie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.
